Quarantine Days

Since the stay-at-home policy was put in place by our Virginia state government, the days (and nights) seem to run together.  I often have to check my iPhone to remember not only the time of day, but the actual date.  Had it not been for COVID-19, I would be at the JW Marriott in Cancun, Mexico… either sitting poolside with a alcoholic beverage or relaxing in the pool.  Yes, I would be with my family who I am currently quarantined with, but I’d be in a tropical environment with the beach, pool and other amenities at the resort.

Like mostly everyone, I love my family, including my two sons, but they drive me crazy at times, particularly since they are going through their adolescence phase.  Their lack of maturity, silly jokes/pranks and having to be told a thousand times to clean their rooms or help out by washing dishes is exhausting.  My wife and I decided to take them for a ride just to get out of the house, but their behavior in the backseat of the vehicle made me wish I were somewhere else.  To compound my negative state of mind, there is a nail in the rear passenger side tire.  Not the right environment to look to have it repaired…

I do realize that these are stressful and abnormal (an understatement) times.  I try to remind myself that they are dealing with anxiety, the trauma of being socially distanced from their friends and activities.  But sometimes we need a little separation; I’m sure my wife would love to have some separation from us as well, LOL!  At least yesterday she had an opportunity to do some gardening outside – an escape into an element she loves.  Anyway despite the continual cabin fever I do realize how fortunate I am… this blog allows me to vent a little.
